A guide to using data for health care quality improvement
This guide was developed in 2008 to assist health care teams to understand the role of data in quality improvement and how to apply some basic techniques for using data to support their quality improvement efforts. The guide describes the fundamental concepts associated with data collection, analysis, interpretation and reporting, and how these relate to the various stages of the quality improvement cycle. It also describes how data informs and integrates with the other key aspects of quality improvement, including communication, people and systems. It assumes a basic understanding of quality improvement principles and provides links for detailed information for those who wish to explore the topic in more detail.
